[BREW] Pagans And Politics

February/3/2010

I received an email this morning about a very Witchy product from (of all places!) Franklin Covey!  These are the people that make the ever-popular planners.  I’ve used a Franklin Planner for most of my adult life and find it to be as vital a tool for this Witch as any wand or tarot deck.  Why?  Because being organized and goal-focused keeps your will honed in on what needs to be done and what goals you want to accomplish.

The new product is made by Action Day, and it’s called a Knowledge Notebook.  The notebook is designed to capture ideas from your reading, meetings, workshops, or sudden flashes of insight.  In each two-page section, you have the right page designed for note-taking.  The left page is divided into three sections — START DOING, STOP DOING, and CONTINUE DOING.

This is brilliant!  Changes are a result of action.  There are only three kinds of action to take:  to begin a new action, to cease an old action, or to continue your action (with or without modifications).  Knowledge itself is useless without application.  When we apply something we know and put it into action, we must necessarily move through one of these three doorways and either start, stop, or continue the present path.

How many times have you read something and said “Wow, that really fits… I need to do this!” only to find that the moment passes you by and the mental knowledge is there, but it never quite trickled down to your lifestyle?  It really is “Use it or lose it!” when it comes to insight and transformation.  With a tool like this, you can allow those insights and the learning to happen and make plans for how that knowledge will affect you, how you will CHOOSE to transform yourself.

For a Witch, the usefulness of a tool like this should be obvious.  It is like an alchemical workbook for a better self!

If the Knowledge Notebook isn’t quite your style, you might also look at the Idea Notebook, the Problem Solving Notebook, or the Meeting Notebook.  Each one targets a different kind of thinker or situation.  The Idea Notebook is wide open spaces, good for creative types.  The Problem Solving Notebook has space for brainstorming and action plans.  The Meeting Notebook allows for main idea capturing, tickler notes, and follow-up steps.

Want to add one of these tools to your arsenal?  You can get these notebooks at Staples or Franklin Covey.  The links above have embedded links to both resellers at the bottom right of the webpage.  As always, shop local if you can and support the economy where you are.
