I have been single for going on four years now -- that's single as in "not married, not dating, no boyfriend, no sex". It has been one of the most wonderful periods of my life! There is nothing in the world that is worth as much as learning to love and be comfortable with yourself. Too many people put their happiness in the hands of other people, waiting for someone to make them happy, or believing that "when I find the one, I'll be happy". But the truth is, in order to find The One, you first have to *be* The One -- to yourself! You have so many things to celebrate -- your health, your friends, your hobbies, your wisdom, your chance for creating a great future each and every day! Love is not a thing to be collected, but a state to be shared. *BE* love this Valentine's Day. Allow yourself permission to be happy for all those who are in relationships, but also give yourself permission to be happy WITHOUT a relationship. It is the biggest, most marketed lie that we must be mated to be happy. It's the other way around... We must be happy to be mated. True mating is done between equals, self-possessed and self-honoring. Anything less than that is a state of co-dependency in which two people wait for the other to fulfill them. I hope you and your sister have a glorious Valentine's Day. I know I'm sending Valentine's to all my friends! Might make cookies, too! Do be joyful! She is single and I am newly single. This holiday could be living hell or it can be celebrated in our own way. I thought this video was very moving and it is so true. I told her I plan on honoring V-Day as a day dedicated to cherishing others and ourselves. I do not need to feel sad because I am now without a partner, I will be joyful because I have so many to cherish and who cherish me. It is our day and I'll be there to celebrate it with them.
