[BREW] Pagans And Politics

September/4/2009

beautiful-harvestFriday is sacred to the Goddess Venus.  In honor of Her day, I have taken up the habit of scheduling my beauty services on Fridays.  Friday is when I get my manicures or pedicures, when I schedule my hair appointments, when I take those long baths by candlelight.

It’s also the evening I have mini-spa days at home with my daughter.  Sliced cucumbers on the eyelids, mud masks and hand massages, a streak of temporary hair color that’ll last the weekend  — much fun!

This is what I mean when I say that Life is Ritual.  I don’t cast a circle around my manicurist while I’m getting my nails done, but I am aware that I am treating my body special and doing something to celebrate my beauty.  It makes me feel good and that in turn puts a bounce in my step for the next six days.

You don’t have to be female to take advantage of this ritual timing.  Men are entitled to look good, too (actually, we women appreciate it when you take the time to do things to keep you looking oh-so-fine)!  This is a simple way to include a little Friday Fab into your week and honor that wonderful body with which you’ve been blessed.

Anyone have any special recipes or self-pampering ideas to share?  What’s your favorite way to “adorn the Temple” that is your body?

  • Sitara,

I like to do the same kind of beauty treatments and rituals on Fridays. It gets me prepared in body and spirit for any social and romantic occasions over the weekend.

I make a salt scrub that leaves my skin soft and my aura glowing. Here’s the recipe:

In a medium sized bowl pour 2/3 cups of honey to 2 cups of kosher salt. Mix in water a tablespoon at a time until it holds together like a paste. Add any cleansing or beautifying essential oils you like – I like hyssop and rose. You can also break open any herbal tea bag you like and add it’s contents to scent and color the mix.

Bring the bowl with you into the shower. Wet your skin, then turn the water off and use your hands to gently massage the scrub all over. Avoid any freshly shaved or broken skin (salt in a wound, you know) and don’t put it on your face – it’s too harsh.

But all the rest of your body will love it. When you rinse off, the ingredients dissolve and don’t gunk up your tub or your drain. Moisturize afterwards with body oil or rich body butter for the most heavenly soft skin ever.

    Enjoy!
