[BREW] Pagans And Politics

August/28/2009

secretI had debated about whether or not I wanted to share this. However, it’s a pretty big deal for me considering the fact that I wasn’t writing at all at this time last year.

I found out today that I won Third Place in the Writer’s Journal Horror/Ghost Short Story Competition. I don’t know how many entries there were, but it’s a fairly well-read magazine specifically geared towards people who write.  My winning entry (published under a mundane pen name) is currently published in the September/October 2009 issue of Writer’s Journal.  I’m gonna have to go look for a copy this weekend.

This marks my first official newsstand publication and first official writing award. It’s also one of my first stabs at fiction (which is actually quite difficult to write well, I learned firsthand). So it’s a pretty special day for me… a further validation from the Universe that I am good at this, that I have a future in word-craft and yarn-spinning.

I just wanted to share my special moment and say thank you for all of your encouragement. And while I’ve already told them, I can’t be thankful enough to my best girlfriends of my Third Act Climax Writer’s Group for all their encouragement, support, proofreading, critique, and company. Success without good friends is a journey I don’t particularly want to take.

  • OOOOHH!! Crangrats Honey! You deserve it! After all why can’t you share this with family and friends?

  • Cool =) I am happy for you. As a fellow writer I know there is nothing more satisfying then another enjoying your work. I agree with Millie Fee, why shouldn’t you share this? Sometimes the smallest success have more meaning to them. Kudos to you and keep writing.

  • Congratulations, as a fellow writer I can relate to how meaningful this is and I can also say how much I appreciate your writing and the obvious wisdom it so clearly communicates.
    thank you

  • Congratulations! I’ve always been told I’m a “great writer,” but I find fiction extremely hard to write… I love your writing, and I look forward to reading anything you put out there. :-)

  • Congrats!!! You were right to share this with everyone! You have a true gift with words, and I’m sure your fiction is just as wonderful as your articles and posts. The things your right reach right into the mind and soul. May this be the first of many accompliments!!!!

  • I’m glad you shared this achievement! I recently made a first attempt at writing a horror story & submitted it to Wierd Tales Magazine, but it was rejected. Writing fiction IS hard! That you are now published, and an award winner, speaks volumes about your amazing talent & dedication. Congratulations, and thank you for sharing your precious Gift with us everyday.

  • I just wanted to tell everyone thank you for your sweet words and for letting me share. I can’t wait until I can announce further publications and, hopefully, book contracts!

  • Whoo Hoo! That’s fantastic! Congratulations!

  • I am not a writer but I am an avid reader and your writing keeps bringing me back daily. You are very passionate and that is reflected in your writing. There was no question of whether you qualify to win an award or not, it was just a matter of time. It is also just a matter of submitting your completed book to the right publisher before that contract comes. Don’t rush it though…. I don’t know why I have to convey to you that you must know it to be complete before you submit it. We are all waiting with baited breath……
