[BREW] Pagans And Politics

August/24/2009

brew-purpleToday’s Magickal Musical Monday is from Miley Cyrus.  You may have already heard this song on the radio.  As I ran my errands with my daughter over the weekend, it seemed like this song was EVERYWHERE.  We couldn’t get away from it.  Once I asked the Lady if there was a message I needed to get from the song, I heard it one more time and realized I needed to post it.

I’m not sure who this is for, but the message is clear.  Especially if you are walking a conscious Wiccan path, you need to listen to this song, understand the words.

In a linear society, there is a beginning and an end.  There is a lot of focus on these two points and plenty of neglect on the line between those points.  This kind of thinking can kill a Witch’s spirit.  We are on a cyclical path, no beginning or ending really… just a few crossroads and the journey goes on.

Very simply:  if you don’t learn to love the path and the work and the walk for itself, this path will fail you.  It will fail you utterly because you have failed to grasp one of the primary lessons of spiritual growth.

It’s about the Climb. (Enjoy the music video… it’s beautiful.)

THE CLIMB (Miley Cyrus)

I can almost see it
That dream I’m dreaming but
There’s a voice inside my head sayin,
You’ll never reach it,
Every step I’m taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but I
Got to keep trying
Got to keep my head held high

There’s always going to be another mountain
I’m always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I’m gonna to have to lose,
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb

The struggles I’m facing,
The chances I’m taking
Sometimes might knock me down but
No I’m not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I’m going to remember most yeah
Just got to keep going
And I,
I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on, cause

There’s always going to be another mountain
I’m always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I’m gonna to have to lose,
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb (yeah)

There’s always going to be another mountain
I’m always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes you going to have to lose,
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb (yeah yeah ea ea)

Keep on moving
Keep climbing
Keep the faith baby
It’s all about
It’s all about
The climb
Keep the faith
Keep your faith

Whoa a oh oh

  • Excellent choice! The first two lines hit me…about seeing the dream and hearing the voice in my head saying I won’t get there. What a loud and persistent voice it is, too. I want to write a response to the voice: “Shut up and keep walking!”

  • A couple of weeks ago I posted part of one of my favorite poems on facebook. After my daughter read it she told me to find this song and listen to it. The message is the same even if the words are different. Now you put it up on your site…..hmmmm….is someone trying to tell me something?
I think Hecate’s Key is opening a whole new world for me. A lot has been happening the last few days and after I have a chance to concentrate on it and sort everything out, I will tell you some of my experiences since I did Hecate’s Key Ritual.

The poem I like so well is:

    IT’S THE JOURNEY THAT’S IMPORTANT
    by John McLeod

    Life, sometimes so wearying
Is worth its weight in gold
    The experience of traveling
Lends a wisdom that is old
    Beyond our ‘living memory’
    A softly spoken prayer:
    “It’s the journey that’s important,
    Not the getting there!”

Ins and outs and ups and downs
    Life’s road meanders aimlessly?
Or so it seems, but somehow
Leads us where we need to be,
    And being simply human
    We oft question and compare….
    “Is the journey so important
    Or the getting there?”

    And thus it’s always been
That question pondered down the ages
By simple men with simple ways
    To wise and ancient sages….
    How sweet then, quietly knowing
    Reaching destination fair:
    “It’s the journey that’s important,
    Not the getting there!”

    • I’m looking forward to hearing how the Key is changing your life. Give it at least until Full Moon to manifest things for you, and then by all means — share if you’d like! Feel free to drop me an email and I’ll set up a post for those that made a Key to comment on so you can share your experiences. :-)

  • I’m not a huge fan of Miley Cyrus, but this song does have a profound message. Thanks for posting it, Sitara!
